In honor of Earth Day, Arbor Day, and as part of National Paperboard Packaging Week Accord Carton partners with schools every year from local communities in PPC’s TICCIT program (pronounced “Ticket”), which stands for Trees Into Cartons, Cartons Into Trees.”

This annual educational program for elementary school students highlights the natural renewability and sustainability of paperboard packaging as well as the benefits of recycling. It demonstrates how paper is made and why trees are so important to the earth’s sustainability lifecycle.

We donate native saplings to the school which children plant in a milk carton they have saved from lunch or brought from home. These “carton-and-tree units” are then planted in the ground. The cartons provide protection and a natural water funnel for the new trees. As the trees grow, the cartons biodegrade, completing the “trees into cartons, cartons into trees” cycle.
